Choir Rehearsal for Ordination of Kent McKusick

Dear Franklin Choir members;

We understand that a number of you will be joining our Laconia UUSL choir to sing at the Ordination of Kent McKusick on Sept 18th. We are very happy to have you with us.

Our rehearsal schedule is as follows. We will practice Ordination music first so that you may leave when our choir has its own rehearsal for Sunday morning worship services. The rehearsals are:

· Wednesday, August 31st (next week!) at 7:30pm at Laconia UUSL

· Wednesday, September 7th at 7:30pm at Laconia UUSL

· Wednesday, September 14th at 7:30pm at Laconia UUSL

· Sunday, September 18th at ?2:30pm at Franklin UU

I would ask that those who plan to sing make every effort to attend as many of these rehearsals as possible, with everyone present at the September 18th final rehearsal. Having ample rehearsal time with as many singers present as possible is the only way I know to build a fine ensemble sound.

I will have copies of the three anthems for you at the August 31st rehearsal.

Directions to UUSL:

From Tilton and Franklin: Follow Route 3, pass Belknap Shopping Mall on the left, go straight through the set of lights, pass Lake Winnisquam on the left and continue along Court Street to a major 4-way intersection and a set of lights (The Landmark Inn will be on your Left), move into the LEFT HAND LANE, and take the LEFT. Go STRAIGHT through Downtown Laconia (It’s a one-way street). You will come to a stop sign. Continue straight through Downtown until you come to a set of lights (Move into the LEFT lane). Take a LEFT. The library is off to your right and when you turn left here, the old railroad station will be on your right (now occupied by Prescott Flower Shop, Las Pinatas Restaurant, Kramer & Hall Goldsmith). Take a RIGHT immediately after the railroad station and go over the railroad tracks. This is Pleasant Street.

The Unitarian Church is one block up on the left right next to The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home (4th building). If there is no funeral at the time, ample parking is available in the parking lot at the rear of the funeral home. To enter, turn into the driveway between the funeral home and our white Unitarian Church. You may also park on the street in front of the church and funeral home.

We look forward to meeting all of you next Wednesday.

A note From Mary Ahlgren: UU Ladies Auxiliary Quilt

At the Barrett Auction House in Tilton, there is a quilt in the window which was made by the UU Ladies Auxiliary in 1976. I has squares of the church, the wayside pulpit, the library, Hall Memorial Library, the high school, the hospital and several other Franklin landmarks. It is signed by people whose names are recognizable, including Susan Ackerson.

Ken told me that it will be sold at the September 12th auction. Supposedly you can see a photo of it at, but although I could find Ken, I couldn’t find any photos. Maybe they are not up yet.

Anyone interested? Take a look!
